How to authenticate users on the TortoiseHg web server?

The TortoiseHg web server configuration has an “Allow Push” setting, where I put users into the ability to change. But when I try to click, I get an authorization error. How do users authenticate? Where do the passwords come from?

Setting allow_push = * will allow someone to click on your repository served by hg serve . Of course, you should only do this on a trusted network. In addition, you cannot authenticate with hg serve — you need a web server in front of it that will authenticate users.

Please see hgrc for a brief explanation of allow_push and wiki for a slightly more detailed explanation of what for hg serve .

I just get into Mercurial, and from what I can say (and read in the documentation), the TortoiseHg web server is not intended for a permanent solution. The docs seem to direct you to running Apache or lighttpd.

I believe you can simply edit your hgrc file in the [authorize] section: Save password in TortoiseHg
