What does PI mean in OSIsoft "PI System"?

What does PI mean in OSIsoft PSI?

https://www.osisoft.com/resources/case_studies/case_studies.aspx

I can’t say if it means pi symbol / number, or if it denotes the previous name for this technology, for example “Process Inteligence”. PI is too close to the more common BI to just be a coincidence.

Note. There are Channel9 videos demonstrating how MS uses OSIsoft to monitor certain operations. C9 video links are located on the CEP "SQL 2008 R2" pages. The SQL CEP functions are called StreamInsight.

PI is used to mean "Factory Information." Now that the PI System product suite does a lot more and is used in many different environments, PI is just “PI.”

PI means factory information or process information, depending on who you ask.

A bit of history for you; Before PI was used in various industries, it was mainly oil / gas oriented. OSI is used to support Oil Systems Incorporated.

PI stands for Technological Intelligence !, while storing information, such as the intersection of matrices, where there is a small set of universes that represent the system, this intersection was never equal to zero, as for pi, it has information as long as it is in connection with the installation.
