As others noted, tracing only works when debugging.
If you want the information to be unloaded when launching "release", you need to use the logging api , which provides flex.

When you test your movie, do you use “Run the application” or “Debugging application”? I'm not sure if this has changed to 4, but if you run it, by default missed actions are skipped.

Please note that you can also view the output of the debug version of the flash player from the command line. Then you do not need to run the application in debuger Flash Builder. You need to create the mm.cfg file. They have changed where this file should be placed several times, so there is a lot of misinformation about where the file goes. The instructions here look like the most up-to-date - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/UsingSDK/WS2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf69084-7fc9.html
