Use Awesome Icon As Favicon Font

Can I use the Font Awesome badge as a favicon badge? You know the little icon that appears next to the website title on the browser tab?

Yes it is. Just take a screen shot of the character you want, cut out the part you need and save it as an image (.ico).

Seriously, you can now check the formats supported by each browser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon#File_format_support

If your characters are graphic or vector files, you'll be fine with most browsers, but IE (because MS hates you) . Otherwise, you really need to save them as images first.

EDIT: I suggest you use http://gauger.io/fonticon

I created an online Font Awesome Favicon Generator to do this!

See Font Awesome Favicon Generator .

Any image can be uploaded to the favicon generator site, for example:

http://favicon-generator.org/

or

http://www.favicon.cc/

Follow the online instructions on the site of your choice. Usually these are just three steps. Keep the site icon at the top level of your site.

For compatibility between browsers, I recommend always using images for icons. Even if some of the sites you create are for modern browsers only, still convert your favicon images into an image. Consistent use of the same process gives you less anxiety.

It is impossible that you could use the direct awesome font character as favicon without converting to an image. You must convert the character to an image.
