Eclipse takes a long time to initialize

After selecting the workspace, does the eclipse take about 10 minutes to initialize? What could be the problem?

except eclipse.ini

try it

Preferences -> General -> Startup and Shutdown -> Deselect all plugins (if you have ADT, leave it)

also:

Preferences -> Maven -> Uncheck "Download repository index updates on startup"

Eclipse should not take so long to initialize if you do not have many plugins installed (especially buggies). Do you get a slowdown after the workbench is already shown? It could mean a plugin.

You might want to check with Eclipse how much maximum heap is allocated. Eclipse traditionally comes with a very low default for modern machines. If you are on Windows, look at eclipse.ini in the Eclipse directory and change the -Xmx parameter to something meaningful (e.g. 2048M)

Try:

  • this eclipse.ini
  • launch eclipse with the -clean

Such a long start time is usually a sign of some kind of timeout, because the resource (path, Internet address?) Does not respond.

I had the same problem and decided to install it by installing the socks proxy server with the same settings as my http proxy in Window> Preferences> General> Network Settings. The time of my eclipse went from 10 minutes to 20 seconds.

Check the size of the work area. If its more than 500 MB, then this is a problem. Maximize the file and try deleting or moving it. I had a similar problem and it turned out that there is one 1 GB movie file, and this causes the eclipse to slow down the initialization.

If your workspace has many open work sets, depending on your settings, Eclipse can create all of them at startup.

If so, you can:

  • Deselect unused work sets:

    • in the Project Explorer, click on the drop-down triangle
    • in the drop-down list, Select Working Set
    • in the panel that appears, deselect those that you do not need.
  • If you do not want to deselect working sets, you can close projects that you do not need all the time:

    • in Project Explorer, right-click the project and click Close Project
    • OR, right-click on the project and click Close Unrelated Projects (this will significantly reduce startup time )
