Latex: variable printing in Roman numerals

I type in LaTeX, and I would like to display the "variable" (in my case, the link \ ref {blah} to the position number in the list) in Roman, and not in Arabic by default. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks for any pointers!

You can try \def\theenumi{\roman{enumi}} inside the enumerate environment - this will change both labels and links, but you will have to explicitly cancel it (if you want).

lowercase

\romannumeral 0\ref{blah}\relax

uppercase

\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral 0\ref{blah}}

What are they referring to? You can usually override how this particular counter is displayed.

For example, to change the way the partition number is displayed, you can use the following command:

 \renewcommand\thesection{\Roman{section}}

Now, each command that internally uses \thesection will print the section number as a Roman numeral.

Similar commands work for chapter , figure , etc.

\roman (lowercase r ) prints lowercase Roman numbers.

For lowercase: {\romannumeral \ref{blah}}

For capital letters: \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral \ref{blah}}
