This means how the graphical user interface (GUI) looks and behaves. Each OS has its own Look & Feel character.

At first Java had its own, but, of course, most people want their applications to look like their other OSs.

You can change the L & F of your Java applications, read about it in tutorials .

Read about L&F in general on Wikipedia .

To directly specify Sun tutorials :

Look ” refers to the appearance of GUI widgets (more formally, JComponents) and “ feel ” refers to how widgets behave.

Others said that this is a way to change the look of your program.

To demonstrate, go to http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/demos-nojavascript.html and run the SwingSet Demo (Java installation required).

There are several options in the menu under “Look and Feel” that let you choose between the various Look and Feels features included in the standard Java installation.

You can also bring your own if you want. See http://www.jgoodies.com/freeware/metamorphosis/index.html for a demonstration on how to customize your Look and Feel. You can run the demo directly from http://www.jgoodies.com/download/demos/metamorphosis/metamorphosis.jnlp
