Chrome Extension Page Pop-ups Page

I am doing a Google Chrome extension and I would like my background page to trigger a browser action popup after the event. It can be done?

You cannot show / hide the action of the browser, otherwise you will not be able to launch a pop-up window. If you need to show something, have you thought about using HTML5 notifications?
