Winforms - row height of datagridview does not change when defaultcellstyle is set to wrapmode

I have a datagrid that displays long text in pairs of columns. I set defaultcellstyle cells to wrap. This works, but now the line height does not change to compensate for the wrapped text, and the text becomes disabled.

What am I missing?

Set DataGridView.AutoSizeRowsMode for AllCells or DisplayedCells, and this is done automatically. More information on the various selection options is available in this article in the MSDN article.
