Does the Eclipse IDE support JSF 2.0?

I have the WTP 3.1 plugin installed, and the Glassfish v3 plugin is also installed. I can register my server.

When I create a dynamic web project, I see that the maximum version of the dynamic web module is 2.5. Then I select the default configuration for Glassfish v3, but when I look at it with JSF, it is not selected by default. When I select it, the maximum available version is 1.2.

I want to use JSF with facelets - does Eclipse support this? I cannot find anything useful on the Wcl Eclipse website.

Java EE 6 / JSF 2.0 is relatively new. Most tools are ready, but Eclipse has yet to catch up.

Status how far:

  • IntelliJ Ultimate Edition was early on this. Unfortunately, not free software. Note. The free version of Community Edition does not provide tools for much of Java EE, not to mention JSF.

  • Netbeans 6.8 appeared a bit later with almost full support for Java EE 6, including JSF 2.0.

  • Eclipse for Java EE planned to support Facelets in Galileo, but it was canceled and moved to the successor to Helios , which is currently at one of the final stages of Release Candidate, released July 24, 2010. Helios for Java EE will come with full support for Java EE 6, including JSF 2.0 .

Right now, it just works fine in Eclipse Ganymede / Galileo when you select JSF 1.2 and use the JSF 2.0 libraries. You will miss some help on the code, which may be useful for JSF 2.0, but you can write the code as good.

Use Eclipse with the JBoss Tools plugin. It supports JSF2 and CDI.

Please note that you can create JSF 2.0 in Eclipse, but not with the tool support that may come later.

You can always edit xhtml files directly as XML files (and have registered namespaces) and have Glassfish deployments. I did this with a stock of Eclipse 3.5.2 Java EE edition and Glassfish plugin.

Read http://weblogs.java.net/blog/2009/05/18/using-ide-write-jsf-20-app

It details how to configure eclipse for jsf 2.0 development.
