OuterGlowBitmapEffect alternative without bit effects

What is a good alternative to OuterGlowBitmapEffect? A.

Preferably one that can be used in a theme / style and one that can be used without BitmapEffects.

The standard Effect library provides DropShadowEffect , which can be configured in the same way as OuterGlowBitmapEffect . The good thing about this effect is that it is hardware accelerated (as opposed to raster effects that run in software). To make DropShadowEffect look like a glow, just set the ShadowDepth property to 0.
