USB Barcode Scanners

Not really a programming issue, but close. In any case, I will try my luck.

A keyboard key barcode scanner inserts a translation device between the reader and the keyboard. The data sent through the wedge appears as if it were entered into the computer, while the keyboard itself remains fully functional . Since a computer using a wedge keyboard cannot tell the difference between the data entered by the scanning device or the data entered by the keyboard, the wedge can be used to easily add a barcode reading ability to an existing computer without modifying the application software.

I would like to know if all USB barcode barcodes will automatically translate digital signals from a barcode reader into keyboard strokes for applications like a wedge or a USB different from a wedge?

Many thanks

There are all kinds of APIs for accessing barcode scanners - not all of them work, believing that they are a "keyboard"! -) For example, here you can find a reasonable summary of opportunities (classic rs232 approach, wedge and USB interface), although for one company that produces them. Depending on what kind of programming you are ready to do, any of these approaches or others may be the best choice.
