Why "Install new software ..." is in the help section in eclipse

I thought about this with concern. As with some older versions of windows, you need to click the "Start" button to "Finish" the system

Because "Install New Software" also helps.

Since the installation of the Check for Updates option in the Help section is pretty standard (as seen from OpenOffice, Firefox, VMware, VirtualBox ...), and the Install New Software option Eclipse is very closely related to its Check for Updates "(since both use the same architecture and repository configuration).

Because it is a bad design.

It would be wiser to have it in the Tools menu.

Since it suits the "About" service , classically found in the "Help" menu:

  • The About option in the Help menu contains information about installed features and plug-ins.
  • Checking for updates and installing new software commands in the "Help" menu allows you to update existing functions, as well as find, download and install new functions.

Eclipse 3.6 (Helios) will also introduce another help installation feature:

  • compare 2 installations

  • group several licenses together (during the installation process it is still controlled in the Help menu)
