Uninstall an app in iTunes Connect

Apple introduced the ability to uninstall the application. Quoting the iTunes Connect Guide:

If you created an application in iTunes Connect that you no longer need to see or manage, you can remove it from your View iTunes Connect. Uninstalling the application will not allow you to reuse your SKU or application name, and you will not be able to restore the application after uninstalling it.

So far so good. Then this is a bit confusing:

If you are selling your application to another developer for your own distribution and you need to remove it from iTunes. Connect your account, we recommend that you use the "Delete" application so that the name of the application is released for their use.

Does this mean that I cannot reuse the name in my account, but there will be other accounts? Has anyone tried this?

It is possible to save the situation. I also made a mistake and forgot to enter the com.XX part when entering the Bundle identifier. My application was not online yet, but once you submit the BundleID, it cannot be changed.

What you can change is the "Application Name". In this way:

  • Change the application name to something fake
  • Add a new application, now using the correct package identifier and enter the original name
  • Download all

You can reuse the application name of the application that you deleted if you change the default language for the application information.

I just ran into this today while trying to introduce my application. I used the wrong package identifier, and I believed that uninstalling the application from iTunes Connect would release the application name and SKU for reuse when I recreated the application. Not this way. Now I get these two errors:

  • The SKU number you have already entered.
  • The name of the application you entered has already been used.

You are right when you say that their documentation is confusing. What is Uninstall Application and how is it different from Uninstall Application button in iTunes Connect?

I just hope that I'm not screwed to the fact that my application name is not available forever. I contacted the support, so I hope ...

when you uninstall an application from iTunes Connect, you cannot download with the same application name and SKU in the same Apple ID. This resource is intended to transfer the application to another company or individual developer. Ex. when the app was sold.

Now, when you save all this data, and then return to the main screen of the application, another button will appear, which will appear under the name "Delete Application" located after "Configuring iAd Network"
