I would vote for jQuery autocomplete. Although the MS ajax toolkit still seems like a living project, the Microsoft team switched to jQuery and released their own jQuery plugins. From a personnel point of view, developing something with the help of extension tools was a bloated, buggy and generally painful experience, especially when you need to slightly adjust or extend the behavior of the default controls.
The main advantage is the level of support. Now the user base for jQuery is huge. If you encounter an error, a fix or workaround will appear much faster than if you find a problem with the expander - especially in StackOverflow!
The extender would be ok if you had zero experience with javascript and you had to drag the widget to quickly push through the prototype, but if you have any jQuery experience or not, but not enough time on your hands, itβs worth Learn how to use the jQuery autocomplete version.
