Want to embed a font but can't convert Font Suitcase or PostScript Type 1 files

I am using the FontSquirrel font generator to try to create embedded font files so that I can use @ font-face in css to embed for a website.

However, the font files that I have (on a Mac) are grayed out and cannot be selected for conversion in FontSquirrel or other converters (that is, they do not seem like raw files like I can use to paste):

  • PostScript Type 1 Font
  • Font for suitcases

Is it possible to somehow convert them to .otf or .ttf or does anyone know of another nesting method.

Thanks!

Have you tried FontForge ?

The GUI is terrible and it needs X11 to run on a Mac, but it is a really good tool for converting any type of font.

Failed to get this solution for working with Mavericks ... found this wonderful guide: http://macthoughts.net/20131112-373 - it is free, lightweight and works fine.

At least version 0.4.1 of DFontSplitter , the Mac version has the ability to separate the TrueType (TTC) collection and the Suitcase Files font in addition to the Dfont files.

I also received .bdf files when I converted the font chektaus (.ffil) file to .dfont and then used dfontsplitter.

However, I found a solution to get around this. Instead of converting the suitcase file (.ffil) to .dfont, I converted the individual fonts (.lwfn) that came with the suitcase to .dfont files.

Then, when I used dfontsplitter on them, he gave me a .pfb file for each of the individual fonts. Then I used the online service http://www.freefontconverter.com/ to convert .pfb files to fully functional .ttf files without errors!
