Creating a new file in eclipse

Is it possible to create a new file in eclipse without participating in the project?

Does not look like. This is a huge oversight by the Eclipse people. What you can do is create a project in the project creation wizard, and then specify the same name as the folder (do not think that this is important). After that, you can create files in this directory using the project.

Another thing you can do is create an empty workspace project and then link the files to files outside the workspace (New File Wizard> Advanced ..> Link to a file in the file system).

Edit: as Kholsk says, you can drag and drop the file. In newer versions of Eclipse, this will ask you if you want to create a link or a copy of the AFAIK file. You can combine this with an empty project, as mentioned.

It is possible. If you are creating a new file, select "General" and "Untitled".

For convenience, you can also create a shortcut for this. I use Ctrl + N, Ctrl + N for this.
