What is the Android support situation for OMA DRM?

I searched for links to this problem, but all my attempts so far have been unacceptable. I would like to know to what extent Android supports the OMA DRM specification? Does anyone know a link that says what to expect from different versions of Android?

It seems that this specification is actually less supported by new versions of Android (Eclair, Froyo) than with the older version (Cupcake). For example, in my tests with boot descriptors, devices using Cupcake could boot correctly, and devices using Froyo and Eclair showed DD as xml.

Similarly, support for the OMA DRM specification can be expected. to be the same for all devices running this version of Android, or does it depend on each device? (In other words: this is the version of Android adapted for each device by the manufacturer).

You seem to be asking two questions:

Does Android support OMA DRM?

This was previously set during Android 1.1 - at the time when it was suggested that OMA DRM 2.0 is not supported, except for third-party libraries. [Recent posts on the google platform discussion group] suggest that this is still the case.

Can manufacturers configure Android to add OMA DRM?

Yes. If you plan to make an Android device that needs this feature, I would suggest contacting one of the companies mentioned in the above question. If you are an application developer who wants to add this functionality to your application, you still have to find the manufacturer who did it, we hope that their device will be development friendly and will understand that only users of this particular device can use their application.
