JasperReports Vs iReport

I need a reporting tool in my web application. I googled the web and found that JasperReports is the best Java reporting infrastructure out there.

I wanted to learn about JasperReports, but when I went to their site, I also learned about iReport.

I checked on the download site and it says. If you are interested in JasperReports, especially if this is your first download, we recommend that you first consider downloading iReport. Downloading iReport includes JasperReports.

Does this mean that I have to learn iReport? Or what is.

iReport is a graphical jasper reporting tool.

It will generate a jasper jasper report file for you.

Or to quote iReport:

iReport is a visual report designer for JasperReports. A library is a reporting mechanism that you can integrate in your open or commercial application to generate reports created using iReport, display them on the screen or export them to the final format, such as PDF, OpenOffice, DOCX and many others. In addition, you can result through a web application or send the final document directly to the printer. JasperReports is in some ways the core of iReport.

After creating the file, you need to know a little about the Jasper report in order to integrate it into your program.

The report templates used in JasperReports are written in a special XML-based language. XML means that these templates are regular text files and can be edited in any text editor. Sometimes it’s much easier to just quickly open the template in a text editor and fix it, rather than launch iReports, open the template in it, and move the mouse.

iReport is effective if you need to change many report elements at once, say, move 100 elements 5 points to the left. If you need to change only one item, I often use a text editor.

iReport is platform independent because it is written in Java. I successfully use it on Debian Linux and MS Windows XP.

Ireport is a tool for generating JasperReport.In Ireport there are many graphical options for creating good looking reports.

It has many templates with a different purpose for creating a report. JasperReport XML is based and easy to edit with any normal text editor. And JasperReport uses Java or Groovy.
