Why can't Eclipse see my Samsung Galaxy phone, although I can transfer files using the drive letter?

I developed my first (small) Andoid application using Eclipse and am now ready to transfer it to my Galaxy S mobile device (development for Android 2.1).

Following a different thread in SE, I changed the startup mode in Eclipse to manual, in the hope that I could select my phone and / or AVD every time I run the program.

Only AVD is displayed in the howerver popup list, my phone is not listed.

So, obviously, the Samsung Galaxy S device is not recognized. Howerver, I can transfer to and from the device using the drive letter, so the USB connection works correctly.

You have to put the phone in debug mode - I have no instructions (but you can search here or on the Android website for the necessary information)

I had the same problem with Eclipse on Mac OS X. Just turning the phone into "debug" mode (Settings โ†’ Applications โ†’ Development โ†’ USB debugging) did not solve the problem. I have to do below on the command line to solve the problem.

sudo adb kill-server sudo adb start-server

I encountered an eclipse problem not detecting my xperia x10.I installed sony ericson PC companion, the problem is fixed now. It seems that some drivers specific to the device manufacturer are needed.

For those who are still looking, you do not need to install a bloat. Go to: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I535RWBVZW

Click โ€œManuals and Downloadsโ€ and then โ€œSoftwareโ€ under this.
