WPF Feed: Microsoft, DevExpress or Free?

In the new WPF application, we write: we will use a set of DevExpress controls and will have a ribbon.

Which Ribbon library would you recommend using?

The following options are currently available:

  • Microsoft - Vendor offer likely to be included in library in next version
  • DevExpress - The Management Library We Know and Love
  • Fluent - Open-source, received generally good recommendations

Do you have any recommendations regarding which Ribbon library to use?

Free tape here! Microsoft does not have good support

Update:

Please vote on the Microsoft UserVoice site for the ribbon control on the buggy: http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio/suggestions/9671640-update-the-system-windows-controls-ribbon

Loose tape - I think it's a great choice if you want to customize the style of your tape. For example, the Microsoft Ribbon control has deleted theme settings and is now sent with only one theme.

In my experience, Fluent Ribbon is not so good at design in Visual Studio, but is excellent in all other areas. This is Open Source, so you can customize it to suit your needs, and in combination with the Metro MahApps package, you can easily create Metro style apps. Below is a screenshot of an example application made with Fluent.Ribbon using the "Office 2013" theme.

Other feeds are available and offer more options (for example, the visibility of three states, as shown below in a screenshot from Outlook 2013)

TriState Ribbon

I would suggest compiling a list of all the features you need from the Ribbon control before deciding which one to use and whether the paid commercial feed makes sense for your scenario. In your case, you already have access to DevExpress, so this may be your best bet.

I believe that one of the most used is Microsoft.

Microsoft Ribbon Library (October 2010) does not work with non-standard DPI settings. And development time support is not very good.

Comparing with Microsoft alone, I personally consider Actipro Ribbon the best choice. It has excellent development time support and works well with non-standard DPI.

I have not tried another Ribbon library yet.
