What does it take to get an automatic return mode in order to actually work in my loaded buffer?

Apparently auto return mode should work in buffers with support.
I have never heard of this, but the document says that it works .

Then I read a little more and found the fine print:

Automatic Reverse Dired buffers currently runs on GNU or Unix. It may not work satisfactorily in some other systems .

... and ...

[dired buffers] are not restored automatically when changing information about a specific file (for example, when resizing) or when inserting subdirectories. To be sure that all the specified information is updated, you need to manually return using g, even if automatic reversal is enabled in the Dired buffer.

Well, uh ... It doesnโ€™t sound the same as auto-inverting me. What does it take to get automatic recovery to work in reality? Even in (without hacking) non-Unix operating systems.

Can I just change auto-revert-handler to call revert-buffer in Dired-enabled buffers?

This class may be useful for later Windows, but tbh I donโ€™t know how to integrate into emacs \ auto-revert. Believe me, you did a similar job before Cheeso (C # \ powershell integration), so I would suggest that you are an expert.
