Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Beta Slow Installation

The installation of the beta version of SP1 will begin at 8 a.m. today and at 11 a.m. it decided that the progress bar clearly hung about 5%. I clicked the β€œCancel” button, which gives a message that it leans back, but leaves the progress bar in the same place for the last hour.

Is the SP1 beta installer really slow or is there something wrong with my particular setup?

The PC itself is half decent (win7, x64, dual-core, 4 GB of RAM, etc.). Was your installation faster?

It turns out that something is happening with the bootloader built into the web installer. I refused the second installation attempt after another 5 hour session. My workaround was to use the ISO SP1 file from MSDN ( http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=207267 - Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Beta (x86 and x64) - DVD ), as this ensures that all files required by the SP are present prior to installation. I do not know what options are available to people without subscribing to MSDN.

I had the same problem. "VS 2010 Slowlly installation, win 7 x64" (sic) solved this for me.
