What is the most cross-browser method for embedding video?

My client wants to put some videos on their site. In the past, I always just converted video to FLV and used something like LongTail Player to play.

However, at present, of course, many people use smartphones such as iPhones that do not play flash files - so what's the best option? Is this the case of choosing one format, or is it best to go with a flash, and then provide a download for iPhone users? I noticed on some websites that I viewed on my iphone, you can click on the video and run it in the YouTubes player - maybe this is an option?

Views will be appreciated.

I would use HTML HTML tag with mp4 version, website version + Flash backup using mp4 file.

It covers almost everything.

Kroc Camen has a terrific example of this on video for everyone .

Yes, JW Player will make Flash and HTML5 for you. But the codec is also very important: be sure to encode your media as a basic h264 3.0 profile .
