What is the file size limit for an XAP file inside Marketplace WP7? Also what is the maximum size of the XAP file that you can use before the user has to connect to WIFI?

They are listed in the Windows Phone 7 Application Certification Requirements (pdf).

  • Section 2.5: The OTA installation file (over the air) for an application cannot exceed 20 MB. Applications that exceed this size will be downloaded via Wi-Fi or through a tethering connection to a PC running the appropriate Microsoft software.

  • Section 4.1.1: The maximum file size of an XAP package is 225 MB.

Besides,

  • Section 2.8: If your application needs to download a large additional data packet (for example,> 50 MB) so that the application starts as described, the application description should disclose the approximate size of the data packet and that depending on the connection used to receive the data, additional fees.
