IPad - cannot scroll inside the frame

Question

I cannot scroll a PDF document inside a frame in iPad Safari

I already tried 2 things:

• 2 finger scroll
• Using object / insert instead of frame

But that does not work.

I actually tried a lot of things ... overflow, height, etc.

According to this article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1484 you cannot scroll inside a frame when using Safari on an iPad. Frames always change according to their contents (this also applies iframes). To do this, Safari even rejects the "cols" or "rows" values ​​you made in the frameset tag and seems to use any value. Unfortunately, the frame is not the right size for PDF files, so they are cropped.

I think your best bet would be to link the PDF directly ...

I think the problem is that you are trying to display a PDF file. The two-finger approach should work for regular HTML frames.

One option is to use the Google Docs Viewer (http://docs.google.com/viewer) in your application.

You can hide empty divs at specific positions in the frame and use jQuery to scroll to those positions. Thus, the user will not be able to scroll the frame, but they could click on the navigation, which would move the frame to the pproper section.

Have you tried Ext JS 4 JavaScript Framework? On their forum, they talk about the possibility of showing PDF in a panel . The forum topic contains sample code. The solution does not apply to the iPad, but I heard that in general Ext JS works very well on the iPad. Does anyone else have experience with this infrastructure?

I noticed when viewing StackOverflow on the iPad that any code in the frame that scrolls beyond the visible is not available. I think it might just be a Safari restriction on iPad / iPhone
