Retrieving the number of rows inserted in IBM DB2 V6R1 (AS400) through JBDC

We recently migrated a new version of DB2 on AS400 to a new version of V6R1, we use the Spring framework (version 2.5.6.) To communicate with the database. We call the Spring NamedParameterJdbcTemplate.update() method to insert new rows, this method should return the number of inserted rows, which does not happen (as a result, we got a zero result), although the row is regularly inserted.

We came to the conclusion that if there is no primary key column in the insert statement, everything is fine, so there is no problem when the PK column is auto-incrementing, but in some situations we have to insert the PK value, and then we have to deal with the situation somehow The regularly inserted row is not registered in JDBC or Spring.

Can anyone help?

Me and Ante work together ... the problem has nothing to do with Spring, that's for sure, because I set up a project that uses simple JDBC and PreparedStatements.

So, I will add additional information on how to simulate a problem:

When using the RETURN_GENERATED_KEYS flag RETURN_GENERATED_KEYS most significant thing to be understood is how to prepare prepared statements.

 insert into test_v6r1 (id, value ) values (?, ?)

internally prepared as:

 SELECT *SQLGENCOLUMNS FROM NEW TABLE(insert into test_v6r1 (id, value ) values (?, ?))

In the case of V5R4, it is prepared normally:

 insert into test_v6r1 (id, value ) values (?, ?)

Javadoc PreparedStatement.executeUpdate() says:

Executes the SQL statement in this PreparedStatement Object, which should be a SQL Data Manipulation (DML) language, such as INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE; or an SQL statement that returns nothing, such as a DDL statement.
Returns: either (1) the number of rows for SQL Data Manipulation (DML) statements, or (2) 0 for SQL statements that return nothing

and the executable statement is explicitly a DML statement. I suspect this is a bug in JTOpen / JT400 . I tried with 6.1 and 7.3, and this is the same.
