I am looking for some kind of callable way to get information about famous people and celebrities. Given the line, I would like to determine if this is the name of a famous person, and if so, if they are alive and, possibly, what category they belong to (for example, Actor, Musician, Athlete).
Does anyone know of any public APIs to do such a thing? The best I can come up with is Wikipedia, but this is quite problematic because most of the information needs to be analyzed and is not in a reliable and predictable format.
I would also like to offer suggestions for possible names when the initial search does not appear (since the strings will be from people and may contain spelling errors).
