Original PNG size for Android 9-Patch?

I am looking to create a 9-patch background image for my application, and I wonder what size I have to make PNG in Photoshop first before converting it to a 9-patch image?

Thanks Aaron

Take a look at http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html

Note the combination of screen sizes and densities to consider.

Currently, you probably want to cover at least three image sizes: 320x480, 480x800, and something for small / LDPI devices. In the near future, you can also include an image for XHDPI devices.

Images must be this size before adding information about 9 patches. In 9-patch information, the size of the actual images will be increased by 2 pixels in width and height and that it should work. Thus, the image 320x480 becomes 322x482.

Your image can be from 5 by 5 to 1280x800 ...

Actually, it depends on what you want to show on this background image. small files, of course, are not as exciting as nice full-screen savers developed by a professional :)

If you want your splash screen to fill the screen, you can create your splash screen to fit the largest screen and place it in the image, allowing the android to crop it for a smaller screen.

You can also scale the image to fit all resolutions, but it's not that sharp.

I assume that it all depends on what you want from the image. Make sure the image has everything you need before you convert it, obviously. Perhaps I do not understand your question.
