Regular expression for dummies

Is there any resource that spans regex at a very basic starter level? I looked at http://www.regular-expressions.info/ , but it's not really a "quick link" friendly .. any other sources?

For me, I mainly use it in php, so a friendly php would be helpful.

When I started with regular expressions, I recommended this book: Mastering Regular Expressions . It really helped me understand the basic concept and operation of regular expressions. But I can still learn from this today, because it also covers more complex topics.

There are several versions of PDF books, but I donโ€™t think they are legal. Otherwise, I would recommend buying this book if you really like to understand regexp, and not just copy ready-made regular expressions and understand how it works.

If you are in windows, you can use this program http://www.radsoftware.com.au/regexdesigner/ This is mainly for .net, but can be applied to any regex script. There is a short link on the side, and you can create and test your expressions.

Sams Teach Yourself Regular expressions in 10 minutes gave me a very good start. Everything about RegEx isn't taught in 10 minutes, but every aspect of RegEx is broken down into easy-to-understand ~ 10-minute sessions.

To really test RegEx, regexpal.com was awesome :)

The best Iโ€™ve found so far is http://www.addedbytes.com/download/regular-expressions-cheat-sheet-v2/png/ from a message from Wesley Murch. I didnโ€™t even think about searching for a cheat sheet on google .. thanks!
