Ipad safari high resolution PNG file

Question

I have an asp.net website that displays png images that are converted from hi-res tiff files. The image is shown with a simple img tag. The problem is that wneh png has a high resolution - it does not display properly in the Safari Safari browser, but most png files are fine. What could it be? Thanks you

iPad cannot display images with w * h larger than 3 * 1024 * 1024 (3145728)

So, if your image is 2048x2048, then w * h = 4194304, which is larger than 3145728.
