Installing a githolite: I cannot clone a gitolite-admin repo!

I am trying to install gitolite on my ubuntu server server.

there are still many things that I don’t know yet, but I am moving very slowly along his instructions (http://sitaramc.github.com/gitolite/doc/1-INSTALL.html).

  • My server account is "yoon" and gened key-pair using the ssh-keygen command without passpharse (just hit enter). then copy the public key to / tmp dir and chmod it 777.
  • install gitolite using 'sudo apt-get install gitolite', and create a gitolite account. (The last line of output was No adminkey data - not initializing gitolite in / var / lib / gitolite. ).
  • change the user using 'sudo su gitolite' and exec 'gl-setup / tmp / id_rsa.pub'.
  • go back to my account (yoon) and run 'git clone gitolite@myserver.com : gitolite-admin' and then ask for the gitolite@yoonha.iptime.org password .
  • If I pressed the enter button because I did not dial any proxy card when creating a key pair, the terminal said that rejection is allowed, try again .

plz let me give any hint ~ THANKS!

+ I use the same processing as the server and client.

Finally, I have an answer from me!

The gitolite user created by the devian package gitolite automatically cannot log in via sshd. so I added gitolite in AllowUsers to the sshd_config file.

Whenever an ssh-based operation asks for a password, probably because it:

  • (the ssh daemon that listens for your request) does not find the public keys in the ~gitolite/.ssh/authorized_keys file.
In the Gitolite installation, the package method , i.e. gl-setup (line 91+)
Make sure you have ~gitolite/.ssh/authorized_keys properly filled and protected.

  • or your private key ( id_rsa ) is not where it should be (in your own $HOME/.ssh )
