The difference between show and list functions

What is the difference between show function and list and what is their purpose?

I am studying CouchDB right now and reading a bunch of different tutorials for CouchDB, but this question has never been thoroughly explained. (at least I did not find it)

The A _show function is for converting a single document, and the _list function is for converting the results of a view.

Both of them are designed to transfer data inside your document (s) and convert them to another format. For example, you can display both HTML, XML, and any other format that you specify through the content-type header. By doing this on the database itself, you can reduce the part of the work that your application layer should do.

In addition, there are ways to use the _list functions for additional filtering and conversion to view the results, which provides much more flexibility than the typical view.
