Can MikTeX create tagged PDF files?

Marked PDF files make it easy to double-check and the availability of PDF files. It seems like this would be a natural use case for LaTeX, which protects content by style. But, as far as I can tell, there is no way to create a tagged PDF file using MikTeX 2.8.

Does anyone know any tips, tricks, or methods for getting a tagged PDF file through LaTeX without using a commercial version of Adobe Acrobat?

Hmm, yes, sort of.

There is not very complicated tag support, and that is, is implemented in pdftex / luatex. Bookmarks and cross-references in a document are supported by tags. More complicated work was also done at TUG conferences, but at the moment all this is under development.

Context / luatex better supports Latex for this kind of thing: there is some support for interactive documents using context layers, where the contents of the layers change when buttons are clicked in the PDF. I think this should be done with tags.

I have never heard anything like embedded forms, digitally signing or embedding a Latex / Tex / Context source in a received PDF file, but in principle this is all possible.

I have the same question with pdfLatex in general and found this:

But I still do not check it.
