Tex vs Latex: is it worth the change?

I have been doing paperwork (both mathematical and non-mathematical) with Latex for about two years, and I feel pretty comfortable with it. Now I would like to learn Tex, but I wonder if there are any real reasons for this, and not just for fun ... Is there anyone who uses Tex when this person can very well use Latex?

"Learn TeX only if you want to become a typesetter,"

This is an unforgettable proposal that our school project manager answered this question to my colleague a few years ago ... :-)

LaTeX will do the work that 99% of people need. There is an excellent book about TeX - TexBook naruby , unfortunately, only in Czech (I doubt it has been translated). But just look at it to just shake and assure that you really don't want to learn TeX :-)

LaTeX also provides very limited access to the features of the TeX engine. This is only due to the effective idea of LaTeX. When everything has been done, and you can afford to spend some time studying what is behind LaTeX and what TeX offers.

This can help you understand the difficulties with LaTeX, why you need additional packages for a specific fine-tuning, you can mix Simple TeX code into your LaTeX code for fine tuning, you can write your own LaTeX packages get more control over TeX ...
