WPF Application Population

I am using Windows 7 Professional (x64) and have installed RTM.NET 4.0 on my machine.

Since 2 days, I notice that every WPF application that I try to start hangs and does not respond (text that does not respond to it is not added to it), and it is painted white.

No exception information, no error message. Nothing. Even the event log shows that there was an "application freeze" event (code 1002) and nothing more.

This problem is for everything that is written in WPF, even for products like NHibernate Profiler and other things that I used on a regular basis without any problems.

I tried reinstalling .NET 4.0 and nothing has changed. Any ideas why this might happen?

I had the same problem. It was a damaged font cache!

See http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/7cc032c1-5f4d-4518-adc6-f53afd051e6b for a solution.

If I had to guess, I would say video drivers. This may help to try connecting the Visual Studio debugger to a freezing process (Debug → Attach to Process) to make sure that Managed Code is the selected type of debugging. You can then break into the debugger and possibly see the overall stack trace.
