How to imitate CUDA on windows

Is there a way to check CUDA samples and codes from a computer without an NVIDIA graphics card? I am using Windows and the latest version of CUDA.

There are several possibilities:

  • Use an older version of CUDA, which has a built-in emulator (2.3 that's for sure). The emulator is not very good, and you will not have the functions of the latest releases of CUDA.
  • Use OpenCL, it can work on processors (although not with the nVidia SDK, you have to install either AMD or Intel OpenCL (AMD works fine on Intel processors, by the way). In my experience, OpenCL is usually a bit slower than CUDA.
  • There is a window branch of the Ocelot emulator: http://code.google.com/p/gpuocelot/ . I have not even tried.

However, I would recommend buying some CUDA enabled card. 8xxx or 9xxx is ok and really cheap. Emulation will allow you to get basic GPGPU programming skills, but it is useless when you write some kind of real-world application, since it does not allow you to debug and tune performance.
