Deploy a simple test application using Sinatra + DataMapper + Postgres + Heroku: setting do_sqlite3 (0.10.7)

Goal : Deploy a simple test application using Sinatra + DataMapper + Postgres + Heroku

Problem . When using the gem 'dm-postgres-adapter' gem 'dm-sqlite-adapter' to push the application in Heroku, I get this. Installing do_sqlite3 (0.10.7) with its own extensions Unfortunately, a fatal error occurred. Report this bug to the Bundler tracker at https://github.com/carlhuda/bundler/issues so that we can fix it. Thanks!

I visited this github link, and someone had the same problem, but it got to Heroku, https://github.com/carlhuda/bundler/issues/1488 . I sent an email to the Heroku mailing list and am waiting for a response.

I came across LoadError: no such file to load -- dm-sqlite-adapter So I added this to Gemfile and Gemfile.lock, and this is as far as I can ever get

I tried installing and configuring Postgres locally, but this is a completely new set of pains that I am slowly learning, but can't get started.

I also read every question here with a simulated problem, some promoted me to this point, and some did not receive answers from the seeker and left it a mystery.

The error when installing do_sqlite ( Installing do_sqlite3 (0.10.7) with native extensions... ) occurs simply because this stone requires the sqlite3 libraries to be installed and they are not on Heroku. To fix this, remove the dm-sqlite-adapter (this is what idepends on do_sqlite ) from your Gemfile. If you want to keep Sqlite for development and use Postgres for production, you can use the Gembundler groups :

 gem 'dm-postgres-adapter', :group => :production gem 'dm-sqlite-adapter', :group => :development

This way, the postgresql adapter will be installed in production on Heroku, but sqlite will be used locally for development.

The line in your code that installs Datamapper:

 DataMapper.setup(:default, ENV['DATABASE_URL'] || "sqlite3://#{Dir.pwd}/recall.db")

This looks for the DATABASE_URL environment variable, and if it is present, it otherwise uses the sqlite url. Getting a LoadError: no such file to load -- dm-sqlite-adapter error LoadError: no such file to load -- dm-sqlite-adapter assumes that this variable is not actually set. Run heroku config , there should be entries for DATABASE_URL and SHARED_DATABASE_URL . If they are not installed, you need to add a database.

See this other SO question for a similar issue. The solution was to run heroku addons:add shared-database:5mb .
