VirtualBox and vmdk vmx files

I saw people on the net offering images of a particular Linux installation, and they are offering it as VMDK / VMX files or ISO files. Now the ISO seems to work with VirtualBox, because I can say that it mounts the CD / DVD and uses the ISO instead of the physical disk, but the VMDK and VMX files are always listed as intended for use with VMWare / VirtualBox.

So how can I use these files with VirtualBox? When I try the Appliance Import Wizard, it tells me that it only works with OVF files.

(I am using Sun VirtualBox 3.0.4)

VMDK / VMX are VMWare file formats, but you can use it with VirtualBox, just create a new virtual machine and, when you ask for the hard drive, select "Use existing hard drive" and click the "with folder and green arrow" button in the box with the list on the right, "which Virtual Media Manager opens, it looks like this (you can open it directly by pressing CTRL + D in the main window or in the File> Virtual Media Manager menu) ...

And then you can add the VMDK / VMX hard disk image and configure it for your virtual machine :)

Actually, to configure the machine, simply open the .vmx file with a text editor (for example, notepad, gedit, etc.). You can see the type of OS, memsize, ethernet.connectionType and other settings. Then, when you make your car, just look in the text editor for the appropriate settings. When it asks for the drive, select the .vmdk drive as described above.
