How to clone an Eclipse workspace

I am wondering how to create a new clean Eclipse workspace, but all the settings from the existing one. Maybe something like cloning, but without projects?

I use export -> settings -> everything , then go to a new workspace and import prefs. It works great (although it is obviously not very convenient). Unfortunately, eclipse only offers to copy layout settings when changing workspaces, which are not enough for most purposes.

You can see the following plugin: http://code.google.com/a/eclipselabs.org/p/workspacemechanic/

This is a plugin developed by Google that allows you to save your settings and automatically apply them to any workspace.

If you save it to your Dropbox (or any other shared storage), you can share your preferences between all your computers and even between all members of your team.

This is the best and most reliable solution for your problem.

My preferred method is to copy the .settings folder and the .settings folder from the old workspace to the new workspace. This seems to do a more complete job than using the export preference options. You can find both folders under your workspace, starting from the .metadata\.plugins
The .settings folder can be found in the org.eclipse.core.runtime folder .launches folder is located in the org.eclipse.debug.core folder.

(Only one of the many tricks covered by my two Eclipse Guided Tour training courses at Pluralsight.)

You can try copying the workspace/.metadata . This is mainly plugin information, and it is possible that you do not have some plugins. A specific folder containing important settings is .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings . See article

No need to manually copy something, use Preferences in the desktop area - this works fine. Here is a quote from the description:

Extends the File> Switch Workspace ... command with the option transfer all preferences from the current workspace to another.

Just find the Eclipse market and install it there.

The best way is to copy the .metadata folder to a new folder and open that folder in the Eclipse Workspace dialog box.

Just copy the entire workspace to the local file system. This works for me, because my new branch of functions has the same pom file, and thus the general assembly is consistent. Thus, I do not need to import all the projects again.
