What storage should be used for the Outlook plugin?

What storage system should I use if I am going to deploy an Outlook plugin with VSTO?

Can I use Outlook which for email?

UPDATE

I was thinking about SQL Express, but I think I should use the same with what Outlook uses, which would save the problems

There are many options for you, below I have listed all those that I have seen in the past.

  • For storage managed by Outlook, you can examine StorageItem , which is a hidden item inside this folder (Inbox, etc.). Using StorageItem , you can add custom user properties and file attachments.

  • You can also create a new folder and mark it as hidden using the flag PR_ATTR_HIDDEN . Adding any mail or journal items will only be visible to your add-in, since you can access hidden folders through the API, but not through the Outlook interface.

  • I also saw that users store information inside Outlook log items serialized as XML (as jello-dashboard does).

  • You can create your own store through AddStore to create a local PST.

  • Alternatively, you can store data external to the Outlook system for use by your add-on. External stores can be local environment paths , local / remote databases, or web service calls.
