Get building height from API maps

Is this any public map API (google, microsoft, openstreet ...) that returns the roof height for specific points?

Imagine: you ask for some address, and the API returns the coordinates, some information and the height of the building, if available.

OpenStreetMap has a high-rise tag and various other building-related tags like building: levels , from which you can evaluate the height. However, please note that at present most buildings do not have these tags, because they are not yet widely used. However, you can try and query all the buildings around a specific point or area using the Overpass / overpass turbo API , and then find those tags.

I am pretty sure the answer is no. To get this information, you will need LIDAR data or something similar, and there is no global LIDAR data set at any resolution needed to accurately determine the height of an individual building roof.

Many web mapping services use terrain and building elevation models to calculate their β€œ3d” viewing modes, but I don’t think this data is ever affected, and even if that were the case, I think it works only for display and not for performing any calculations.
