Raw control characters in NSJSONSerialization

I have this JSON http://www.progmic.com/ielts/retrive.php which I need to analyze. When I do this using NSJSONSerialization, I get the Unescaped control character around character 1981 error message.

I need to know:

  • What features are raw control characters? Is there a list or something else?
  • How to get rid of this error? The easiest way?

Thanks in advance.

I added this method to remove invisible characters from the extracted string:

- (NSString *)stringByRemovingControlCharacters: (NSString *)inputString { NSCharacterSet *controlChars = [NSCharacterSet controlCharacterSet]; NSRange range = [inputString rangeOfCharacterFromSet:controlChars]; if (range.location != NSNotFound) { NSMutableString *mutable = [NSMutableString stringWithString:inputString]; while (range.location != NSNotFound) { [mutable deleteCharactersInRange:range]; range = [mutable rangeOfCharacterFromSet:controlChars]; } return mutable; } return inputString; }

After receiving the NSData, I convert it to NSString, the above method is called to get a new line with the remote control characters removed, and then convert the new NSString to NSData again for further processing.

What do you do before using NSJSONSerialization? Check the encodings, maybe the problem is there.

I tried it quickly and it worked. The original JSON is valid. This is what I got when I serialize the array back to JSON with beautiful print:

You can copy and paste JSON into a file, save it in different encodings and see what happens with your code. UTF-8 should be a way.
