What is the “erase block” in the “mkfs.jffs2” utility on Linux?

What is the 'erase block' in mkfs.jffs2 utility?

I could not find anything due to googling, possibly due to my missing search skills. Can someone tell me what it is?

Can anyone describe what an “erase block” is?

JFFS2 runs on raw flash, and not on devices such as USB sticks that have firmware that makes them look like traditional drives. The original NAND flash can erase (i.e. set the bit to 1) in very large blocks. “Erase block” is the size of the block that the device can erase.

See /proc/mtd to find out what your system thinks the size of each block erases the device. (To use / proc / mtd and for JFFS2, you need an MTD device (a device with memory technology, i.e. Raw flash).)
