Liferay Inc, currently does not plan to release an IntelliJ plugin specifically for Liferay devleopment on Liferay IDE strings for the Eclipse platform.
However, this does not mean that Liferay development does not work very well with IntelliJ. In fact, it is quite popular and successful both within the company and beyond, with support only for Java EE in IntelliJ.
