Meta tag for translation

Suppose I have 2 pages on my website: www.mydomain.com/pageX.html in English and also www.mydomain.com/fr/pageX.html is a French translation of the first

What meta tag do I intend to use to tell Google that the second is a translation of the first (meta information)?

The standard way to do this is:

 <link rel="alternate" hreflang="fr" href="/fr/" title="This document in French">

... and it seems that Google supports this standard .

The only way to do this (that I know) is to tell Google not to translate the page. Google uses language detection to find out if the webpage is in the same language as the user if they don’t have the ability to translate.

You can't do anything like say google to redirect French users to / fr / though, this is what you would need to manage manually.

 <meta name="google" content="notranslate" />
