Open Source XMPP Server for IM

I would like to create an instant messaging service for my company. I reviewed XMPP from this book. Now I would like to play with some open source XMPP servers and create an instant messaging service. Can you recommend the open source XMPP web servers.

PS: I am new to XMPP and Instant Messaging, so any recommendation regarding XMPP and IM would be helpful.

thanks

A good list of XMPP servers can be found at this link: http://xmpp.org/xmpp-software/servers/

But few of the main players are jabberd, ejabberd, openfire, Tigase, etc.

Recommend openfire as an XMPP server and install candy-chat as a web interface.

it gives freedom to the end user to choose any xmpp client , for example pidgin or simply directly using the web interface.

Candy also provides many extension plugins.

If you are familiar with java, I suggest you this two.

  • openfire - written in java. Easy to use and create new plugins. Good documentation and lots of plugins available. Has a good admin panel.
  • Tigasa - Written in java. Very good features, optimized mobile devices, easy-to-read plugins.

Both are easy to install and configure. If you need to quickly check how this works, I suggest you install openfire and play with it.

I highly recommend the one that provides a simple Openfire (OF) configuration over the Internet. An advantage of Openfire is its ability to expand with plugins, which makes it modular.

As a disinfected Openfire consumes enough RAM.

Here I leave a link where I will explain how to install gnu / linux (not in English, in Spanish)
