I am trying to get a map of uk areas, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_England , in GeoJSON format, to use it in a website visit map on a website, is there a place where you can get data for different countries in GeoJSON format?
You can download the UK administrative borders: https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/opendatadownload/products.html
Scroll down until you see Border Boundary.
You will need to convert the form files to geojson using the GIS tool. Here is a step-by-step guide:
http://blog-en.openalfa.com/how-to-add-interactive-maps-to-a-web-site/
The form files provided by the Ordination Overview have different levels of detail. Looks like you just need to convert the form file european_region_region.shp .
european_region_region.shp
ogr2ogr -f GeoJSON european_region_region.json european_region_region.shp
EDIT: don't forget to convert from Northing / Easting to Lat / Long if you want to work with worksheet, Google Maps, etc.
ogr2ogr -t_srs WGS84 -f GeoJSON european_region_region.json european_region_region.shp
Ordinance Survey has a licensing policy that you must follow:
https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/docs/licences/os-opendata-licence.pdf
There is a useful github repository containing GeoJSON border information for the UK converted from ONS shapefiles https://github.com/martinjc/UK-GeoJSON
Northern Ireland is an exception due to strict licensing by the government organization of "publicly available" information.
I canβt say whether you are looking for country-level or sub-country borders. If this is the first, then:
Some examples for d3.js use the GeoJSON file, which contains all countries of the world. You can find it here: https://github.com/mbostock/d3/blob/master/examples/data/world-countries.json .
D3.js is also a great basis for actually rendering this data in svg, so if you havenβt done this yet, you can look at it. For example: http://bl.ocks.org/2206590 .
If you just want the GeoJson files of the UK borders (including NI), you should just use - http://mapit.mysociety.org
Northern Border of LGD (Council) - http://mapit.mysociety.org/areas/LGD.html
Here are the ONS website data that you can downlaod in different formats
