Excel formulas associated with other workbooks are not updated automatically (without opening the source), but when I open the source workbook, it is automatically updated.

When you create external links (also called links), you can control whether the external links remain up to date and when they are updated. If another user has changed the value in the cell, Microsoft Office Excel does not search for the new value unless you tell him.

To update links, in the trust panel, click "Options" and then "Include this content."
