Is Java runtime preloaded on MAC OSX?

I need to port a java application for mac os-x. The application will be launched through JNLP. Is Java runtime pre-installed on MAC-OSX?

Generally. Java 5 or Java 6 was pre-installed on Mac OS X prior to 10.6 , but this ceased at 10.7.

In addition, a recent Mac OSX update removes a version of the Java 6 plugin previously supported by Apple. Apple has never supported Java 7.

You (or your users) need to download and install Java 7 for Mac from Oracle. But a comment by @Andrew Thompson (see above) offers a good way to smooth out this “speed hit."
